Samsung Galaxy M31s 1

Samsung always offers a lot of options for mid-range phones. They are combinations with little difference between versions. This time Samsung Galaxy M31s comes out with a beautiful AMOLED screen, well-equipped camera, and a huge 6000mAh battery that will make you satisfied? Let’s join Bestechz to do a detailed review of Samsung Galaxy M31s!

Design of Samsung Galaxy M31s

The design style of this Galaxy M31s is no different from Samsung’s new mid-range phones in 2020. Perhaps the notable difference is the hole in the center of the screen and the special color of the machine. But overall it is still beautiful, still catching the trend this year.

This year’s distinctive features are a perforated screen with a rectangular camera block in the rear left corner. It still has considerable traction for this Samsung handset.

Although the Samsung Galaxy M31s is finished in plastic, it still weighs 203g. One important reason is that it equipped with up to 6000 mAh battery most outstanding in this price range. It only loses a bit with the 7000mAh battery of the Galaxy M51. The grip is still very good with soft rounded edges.

The front is dominated by a large 6.5-inch super AMOLED screen. It has holes for the selfie camera right in the center of the screen. I’m thinking, why isn’t it at the corner but keep it in the middle? Because that is very eye-catching when you view content in full screen.

The screen is large, but its edges aren’t as thin as you might think. It is a flat screen and has no curvature to restrict the edges. But I think an experience like this is more than enough for a mid-range phone. Moreover, the chin is not too thick as other phones.

The back of the Samsung Galaxy M31s is finished in plastic. It’s not a premium material, but it does its job well. You have 2 unique colors to choose from: Mirage Black, Mirage Blue. Darkest color at the bottom but will fade up and brighten the top of the camera.

It’s a glossy finish, so it’s also quite luxurious and novel. But it’s also a lot of fingerprints and this can be annoying.

The highlight on the back is still the camera frame for the phone’s four rear cameras. 4 L-shaped lenses with an LED in them. They do not float too much on the back, even if placed on the table, the phone does not channel too much.

Screen

Samsung Galaxy M31s equipped with a 6.5 inch super AMOLED screen. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels which is equivalent to a pixel density of 405 ppi. The visibility of this monitor is really good for its price point. AMOLED panels are something that competitors in the same segment rarely use.

For this M31s, Samsung focuses on screen display and photography rather than the processing performance of the phone. So it has a nice AMOLED panel so it’s understandable. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, it’s flat, so it’s pretty easy to find a 3rd party booster sticker for it.

The screen is bright, so it’s easy to use heaven or even in direct sunlight. It has a high contrast, deep black so the display is very sharp. Color reproduction is natural but I think you should leave it vivid for a more saturated color.

It only has a standard 60Hz refresh rate which shouldn’t be a big deal at this price point. But Samsung’s rivals have brought high refresh rate displays to their mid-range phones. Therefore, I still hope that the successors will have a refresh rate of at least 90Hz.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy M31s runs on the obsolete Exynos 9611 processor for a product this year. Octa-core CPU (Quad-core 2.3GHz Cortex-A73 + 4 x 1.7GHz Cortex-A53) and Mali G72 MP3 GPU. It comes in 6GB and 8GB RAM versions, but both are 128GB storage. In this article, we are evaluating the 6GB / 128GB.

As I said in the above sections, Samsung aims to have a nice screen and take good pictures only. The processor doesn’t pay much attention, as evidenced by the fact that the Exynos 9611 doesn’t respond well to such a mid-range phone.

The CPU is not enough to respond to the extra 60Hz screen, making you sometimes open only apps with lag, let alone heavy apps. Add to that the GPU is too outdated for this year, while the competition already has a much better GPU for the same price. Poor graphics processing also means gaming is a distant thing.
